5 kitchen must-haves for a GERD-friendly diet
We all know that you can get by with very few kitchen supplies. After all, we’ve all been broke students at some point, living with one pan, one plate, and one fork and somehow managing to feed ourselves. But if you’re looking for a little help following a more balanced diet and making delicious, nutritious food from scratch, you’ll need some specific tools. Here are 5 of my favourite kitchen must-haves for a GERD-free diet that I can’t live without!

A quick overview
1. Steamer
This has been my lifesaver since I started my GERD-free diet. It’s very easy to use. Just roughly chop your vegetables or protein of choice, add them to the steamer baskets according to their cooking time, set a timer, and relax. Most vegetables, even the hardest ones, should be ready in 20-30 minutes! Steamed vegetables are probably one of the best things you can eat to help with acid reflux, heartburn and any stomach-upsetting conditions. In fact, they retain much more taste and nutrients than when boiled, and you can eat them straight out of the steamer without adding much seasoning at all.

I know how difficult and tiring it can be to find the time and energy to cook whole meals every day, especially when you work a 9-5 job. A slow cooker solves all of this! It’s a great way to make healthy, nutritious meals from scratch without having to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Even a small slow cooker can give you plenty of batches of the same meal that you can then freeze or store for later use. Simply throw your ingredients in the slow cooker in the morning, and you’ll have a delicious and healthy meal waiting for you when you get home from work.

3. Multifunction blender
I love soups and smoothies, and I pretty much make them every day. They’re a great addition to your GERD-free diet and an easy way to get your daily dose of fruits and vegetables without irritating your stomach. Smoothies can be a good source of protein and healthy fats, and soups are a fibre-rich way to stay feeling full and satisfied throughout the day. Having a multifunctional blender was a no-brainer for me. A couple of years ago, I purchased a version of this available on the British Amazon website and it’s been great. It’s super easy to use and clean. The only downside is that you’ll need to find space for all the little parts and tools!

4. Non-stick griddle pan
A non-stick griddle pan is another excellent way to cook without adding extra fat, which can be a problem for people with GERD. I use it often when I want to make some crunchy zucchini or aubergine slices. They cook very easily and taste delicious without adding anything – all natural! It’s also great for tofu and any other lean protein. With a little creativity, you can cook almost anything in it.

This had been an incredible help and change in Bean’s kitchen! As with many of the supplies we mentioned before Air fryers are an excellent way to cook healthier meals and help follow your GERD-free diet. There’s no need to add oil or use very little oil compared to traditional deep fryers, which is a huge help if you still want those crispy chips but are also trying to be careful with your fat intake. Air fryers are also faster and more energy-efficient than traditional ovens. They’re easy to use and versatile, so you can cook a variety of foods, including proteins, vegetables, and even desserts.
If you’re interested in what I have, this Power XL Vortex Air Fryer has been my faithful companion for almost 2 years and I love it. It’s fast, it’s efficient and I use it for almost anything I once utilized the oven for! If the food fits, I will use the air fryer 🙂 Highly recommended!
Conclusions
Whether you’re battling with GERD/GORD or simply trying to cook more healthy meals, I hope this list of kitchen must-haves has been helpful. These are my personal favourites, and they have helped me to manage my GERD symptoms and eat healthier. It is important to remember that everyone is different, and what works for me may not work for you. It is always best to talk to your doctor before making any changes to your diet or lifestyle.
