Air Fryer Sweet Potato fries
The Easy Way to Make Healthy and Tasty Fries
I finally bought an air fryer and this sweet potato fries recipe is the first one I tried! These fries – or chips – are a delicious and healthy snack or side that can be made quickly, easily and with little to no oil. They are a great alternative to traditional potato chips, as they are lower in fat and calories. A perfect little snack for everybody but especially for folks with GERD/GORD or stomach ulcers. These air fryer sweet potato fries taste like real fried chips but with a much healthier vibe!
Sweet potatoes are also very versatile vegetables. They are a good source of vitamins, minerals, and fibre and they’re some of the most digestible veggies out there. What’s not to love?
Cooking with no oil
After a couple of tests, I decided not to add any seasoning to these sweet potato fries at all before cooking because:
- It’s just that much better for my stomach to avoid cooking with any fat but drizzle a little oil afterwards. This helps avoid heating the oil up to high temperatures which can produce harmful substances. This is also the one thing people with any stomach conditions should really avoid!
- I’m lazy, I now use the air fryer very often and I just don’t feel like degreasing it every time.
That said, it’s a very versatile recipe. You can absolutely add any seasoning of your choice before cooking the air fryer sweet potato fries 🙂
Cheeky Ingredients swap
If you have a sweet tooth, sweet potatoes can be a surprisingly satisfying dessert! Just swap your savoury seasoning with ground cinnamon and maple syrup or honey. Add a dusting of cocoa powder if you feel extra and your sweet potato fries will be the perfect sweet treat.
If you don’t have an air fryer
You can bake the sweet potato fries in the oven at 250 degrees C for 25-30 minutes, or until they are crispy and tender. I would suggest boiling them in water or microwaving them for 5 minutes to soften the core before baking them.
Enjoy!
Air fryer sweet potato fries
Equipment
- 1 Air fryer
- Knife and cutting board
Ingredients
- 2 Large sweet potatoes Or the amount that corresponds to about 600gr
- pinch Salt to taste
- sprinkle Oregano and thyme this is optional
- splash Extra virgin olive oil this is optionl
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash the sweet potatoes. You can use a mushroom brush to make sure they're clean of impurities, do not peel them as the peel will function as an extra crisp factor!
- Slice them up into little sticks circa 1cm in width and put them in the basket of your air fryer. Depending on how big your air fryer is you might need to do multiple batches. It's important not to crowd your air fryer to avoid ending up with uncooked fries.
- Set your air fryer on 200℃ for 15 minutes – every 5 minutes or so shake the basket to ensure your potato fries are cooking evenly.
- Once cooked, add oil, salt and herbs to your liking – eat straight away!
