Vegan Chocolate Protein Balls

Vegan Chocolate Protein Balls

The Vegan Chocolate Protein Balls are the perfect snack for me. I tend to snack a lot and if I don’t have a healthy snack at arm’s length I sometimes end up munching on crisps or food that it’s not-so-good for my GERD/GORD condition. So if I have the time and ingredients I make my own munchy treats 🙂

Recently I discovered Nakd bars, which I love, especially the chocolatey ones! With these Vegan Chocolate Protein Balls I was trying to recreate that flavour and nutrition that I so like of the Nakd Coco Delight bar with a little coconut twist…because it wouldn’t be a cheeky green bean recipe without some cheeky additions!

Cheeky Ingredients swap

  • Peanuts: Instead of Cashew nuts you can use Peanuts. They change the taste profile of the treats but add a boost of Protein and a creamier texture!
  • No Cocoa: If you want a lighter non chocolatey snack, you can leave the cocoa powder out and enjoy the full blast of the dates’s flavour!
  • Cranberries: to get a bit more summery taste you can replace the Sultanas with the same amount of Cranberries – delicious!

Equipment

  • 1 Blender
  • 1 Tablespoon
  • Oven paper

Ingredients

  • 160 gr Dates Preferably already without stone
  • 100 gr Cashew nuts
  • 80 gr Sultanas Or raisins
  • 10 gr Coconut flakes
  • 2 tbsp Cocoa powder
  • 1 splash Vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Measure all the ingredients and add them to your blender. Blend for about 3 minutes, making sure that you're taking breaks to allow your blender to cool off. The "dough" is ready when all the ingredients have blended into a sticky and lumpy paste that you can pick up and mold.

  • Pick up a full spoonful of the dough and shape it into a ball. If it's too sticky you can add a bit of coconut flour. If it's not sticky enough and crumbles you can add a bit more of vanilla extract or an extra date. Repeat the process until the entire dough is moulded into delicious tiny balls!

  • And they're ready! Yes, it's that easy 🙂 Store in the fridge and eat within one week.
For an extra kick, you can roll them in crumbled nuts, cocoa powder or coconut powder.
